JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the FX Supervisor, the FX artist receives creative direction to create high-caliber dynamic and riveting visual 3D FX. This role requires trouble shooting skills to be able to solve technical and artistic issues while meeting client requirements and production deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and produce a wide variety of realistic visual effects, including but not limited to destruction, smoke, fire, water and the supernatural
Work under the guidance of multiple supervisors to achieve the desired level of aesthetic quality and technical accuracy, often exploring different approaches and looks
Develop scalable FX systems that can be used in a variety of shots by a variety of artist
Effectively communicate to other artists on how to use said FX systems and help them through the process if need be
Revise simulations based on client and supervisor feedback in a timely manner
Be willing to learn and adapt new tools outside of Houdini into your workflow
Coordinate with the Lighting & Comp Dept. to ensure smooth integration of FX elements
Work within the established pipeline and offer constructive suggestions to improve the process
Help develop and explore new ways to enhance results
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Creative ability and artistic talent, demonstrated by previous work
Able to build systems that can create complex FX; but are simple, intuitive, and easy to control
Demonstrated knowledge of Houdini, including its advantages over other tools as well as its disadvantages
Demonstrated knowledge of Python, The Houdini HOM, and VEX
Knowledge of one or more renderer commonly used in production; Vray, Arnold, Prman, Mantra
C++ and Houdini SDK experience would be a bonus
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
4+ years live action VFX experience
