Unreal Engine FX Artist

This position is based in Vancouver. All applicants must reside in the United States or British Columbia/Ontario if applying within Canada.

Summary of Position

The Unreal FX Artist is responsible for the creation and execution of real time FX elements, simulations and caches in DCC and the Unreal engine as required in the delivery of previsualization, post-visualization and final pixel as per the direction of the Department Supervisors, Leads, Creative Director, and the client. This position requires a strong understanding of all aspects and components of real time FX production and the ability

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Department Supervisors, Leads and Creative Director to create amazing FX elements and animations using the best practices and technically sound execution for Unreal based projects.
  • Manage and create FX elements, required caches and sprites using DCC applications such as Maya, Houdini,
  • Embergen and other software applications for Unreal Engine final execution.
  • Follow established FX looks, style and direction as required.
  • Work with other real time artists on the project team to ensure that the created FX elements
    follow production guidelines and solve creative execution issues.
  • Access and critique new FX oriented DCC software and internal Unreal tools.
  • Reference and request internal and external stock packs to assist in the execution of FX tasks.
  • Provide guidance, goals and testing to the internal tools department for real time FX workflow consolidation.
  • Provide daily updates to direct reports about the day-to-day running of your assigned tasks inclusive of technical and project build tasks.
  • Work hands on in project productions in the delivery of final previs, postvis and final pixel content.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Unreal Engine experience
  • Experience creating and/or working with high quality FX and dynamic simulations in Unreal Engine
  • Experience creating realistic scenes or effects using Unreal Engine
  • Experience as an Unreal Engine focused Technical Director a plus!
  • Experience with either C# or C++ a plus!
  • Ability to work from home / remotely within a structured team environment

  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to utilize time allotted efficiently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly experienced in working as part of a development team
  • Excellent communication skills in English; both written and verbal
  • Problem solving skills, self-starter, adapt to production changes are required skills
  • Up-to-date portfolio showcasing required skill set
