Asset Lead, Character/Creature

This position is based in Vancouver. All applicants must reside in British Columbia or Ontario if applying within Canada.

Our Vancouver location is currently seeking an Asset Lead, Character/Creature to co-lead our team of intermediate and senior modelers to achieve high quality assets for multiple projects. This is a full time, staff position.

Summary of Position

As the Asset Lead you will be responsible for the successful completion of high quality assets produced by each artist in the Asset Creature/Character Department.  As one of the Asset Leads you will work closely with the CG Technical Supervisor, Rigging Supervisor and production CG Supervisors to meet the needs of the Creative Director and VFX Supervisors.  Lead roles come with expectation of being on the box as needed.

The Asset Lead is a collaborative leader with a high degree of management, leadership and mentoring skills. They have a positive attitude with proven aptitude for delegating tasks and managing a team. The Asset Lead reports to the Head of Digital.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the creation of assets to a high technical and creative standard
  • Provide creative and technical mentorship to the modelers in the asset department to ensure quality and consistency of assets
  • Ensure work is being completed on time and to the expected specifications
  • Identify and communicate artist pressure points, bottlenecks and timeline adjustments
  • Work with RealTime department to help create assets and define real time asset creation workflows for use in Unreal Engine
  • Participate in bidding and turnover to establish appropriate requirements, processes and timelines, as requested
  • Problem solve and anticipate issues and communicate to department managers and production Support department morale and culture
  • Mentor artists

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Lead or Supervisor in feature film/television
  • Extensive experience creating high resolution models from concept to production hand off
  • Proven leadership experience of 3D artists
  • Extensive experience in 3D software – Maya, Zbrush, Mudbox, Substance Painter and Mari
  • Expert understanding of hair grooming methodologies, with preference for Yeti
  • Experience with Look Development for assets within a Vray pipline
  • Ability to achieve high quality level of assets within tight deadlines
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure
  • Up-to-date reel showcasing required skill set

Pluses

  • Prior Houdini Look Development experience
