WildBrain is looking for a Lead Surfacing Artist to join our team!

In this role, you have exceptional skills and experience in surfacing and texturing. You will be responsible managing the Surfacing/Texturing team, reviewing their work and providing feedback that represents the look of show established by the Series Director, Production Designer and Art Director. In addition, you will also create characters, props and set models that accurately represent the creative goals while meeting the scheduling requirements of the production.

What You’ll Do:

  • Carrying forward the vision/ look of show of the Director, Art Director and Production
  • Designer to the expected standard of quality
  • Creatively Lead the Surfacing/Texturing team, assign workload, set and maintain standards of all work completed
  • Communicate and work closely with the Modeling Supervisor, Series Director, Art
  • Director and CG Supervisor to ensure an efficient and creative production
  • Overseeing the daily activities, leading the department, and establishing best practice workflows and guidelines for the team
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently  Review artist’s work as well as mentor artists when needed
  • Collaborating with modelers, designers and lighters to achieve both creative and technical goals within scheduled time frames
  • Meet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production team
  • Strong eye with the ability to communicate creative and technical ideas/ processes
  • Interpret and implement notes and feedback from directors and supervisors in a timely and qualitative manner
  • Assist the production on asset bidding and shot breakdowns
  • Provide workflows, guidelines and art process through wiki documentation
  • Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner

What You’ll Bring:

  • Experience working as a surfacing lead/ strong senior in episodic animation or VFX series
  • Highly motivated, pro-active, with a solid work ethic a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and grow
  • Good knowledge of the production process and pipeline as well as a clear understanding of modeling and lighting
  • Understanding of Shotgrid (formerly Shotgun) or other production tracking software
  • Critical thinker with an ability to predict potential problems and troubleshoot as necessary

Nice to Have: 

  • Experience in Modeling  Traditional art skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience
  • Experience working with the Unreal Engine
  • Excellent knowledge in Substance
  • Excellent knowledge in Photoshop
  • Knowledge in Zbrush
  • Experience in Mudbox is a benefit
  • Knowledge of various renderers like Vray or Renderman
  • Knowledge of Arnold
