Overview

Western X VFX is looking for a IT Supervisor Developer to support our custom pipeline. We use Maya, Nuke, and Renderman and have a suite of tools designed for the specific needs of our reoccurring projects.

The ideal applicant will be a UNIX expert with experience in Maya, Nuke, and Shotgun.  A BC resident would be great, but we will consider permitting the perfect applicant.

Western Post is a boutique facility in Vancouver, Canada that creates visual effects for a stable, long-running client base. We strictly follow BC labor standards, pay proper OT after 8 hours (on the rare occasion that we do overtime), and have an excellent work environment. The ideal candidate would fulfil a good portion of the following. This is also a position for someone with previous studio experience who might be looking for an upgrade into the supervisor position.

Responsibilities:
Provide high level networking and workstation support to artists
Assist in addressing business and technical needs
Design, build, implement, maintain and enhance system infrastructure across Mac OSX and Linux
Generate and update support documentation
Respond to incidents and emergencies

Required Skills:

Experience with, and understanding of:
macOS and Linux systems
Administration of high performance shared storage
Networking theory and practice
Common network services (e.g. LDAP, DNS, DHCP, NFS)
Ability to:
Work independently and in a team
Work effectively under pressure
Learn quickly
Write Bash and Python scripts for systems automation is ideal
Accurately communicate complex or complicated ideas
Experience with, and understanding of:
VFX and/or film post production
Renderman based Render farms
Intel, Cisco and Juniper 1GbE and 10GbE networking equipment
Network security
Software version control
Systems administration via automated platforms (e.g. Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Fabric)
Intermediate knowledge of the following software is a bonus:
PipelineFX Qube
Autodesk Maya
Autodesk Shotgun
Autodesk RV
Adobe Creative Suite
The Foundry Nuke
Basic understanding of:
Colour theory
HVAC
Data center design

Hiring will commence immediately to fill an upcoming vacancy. Position will be under a six month contract with good possibilities for longer term extension. We pay extremely competitive rates.
