Overview

Versatile Media is looking for a Producer who is inspired by the exciting new field of Virtual Production.

This role is a key and senior role within the company. You will be establishing processes and best practice alongside the Head of Studio, Director of Virtual Production, and Head of Technology. The position is permanent and based in the heart of Vancouver where you will be working from our newly opened and purpose-built facility.

Versatile Media Ltd. is a successful media company that has been a recognized and trusted production hub for over 30 years. Our studio in Vancouver, Canada has a sole focus on virtual production combining real-time rendering technology with proprietary research and development such as AI, performance capture. Later in the year Versatile has plans to launch a LED stage in Vancouver for live action filming.

 

As a Producer of Virtual Production you will establish and oversee all production workflows and partner with the Supervisors to breakdown scripts, create bids and ensure that the production delivers on time and within budget. You will manage resourcing, financial tracking, studio reporting, and drive production milestones and strategy. You will be a key line of support in facilitating communication and workflows, both externally and internally. You will also be responsible for driving the production schedule on a daily basis as well as being the link between outfacing clients, vendors, suppliers and freelance talent.

 

The ideal candidate will have a background in either VFX, Animation or live action producing. A strong understanding of VFX and Animation pipelines would be a strong advantage.

 

Accountable and Responsible for:

  • Creating and maintaining project bids using a newly established bidding process;
  • Coordinating with Executive Producers and Supervisors to initiate and deliver script breakdowns and bids for clients.
  • Constructing  the initial high level schedule of deliverable milestones and dates. Create and define overall project milestones and ensure these are communicated to relevant team members;
  • Working with show supervisors to develop a breakdown of all digital effects work and workflow for the project;
  • Participate in the casting, resourcing and recruiting requirements and helps determine show crewing and scheduling for projects;
  • Monitoring and manage the production and progress of all contracted deliverables for assigned projects to ensure their delivery within bid days and deadlines;
  • Prepare and distribute accurate and timely crew plans and schedules to relevant departments;
  • Managing day-to-day operations of the show within the facility, including overseeing coordinators, digital artists and other members of the production staff  to ensure efficient flow of work through the facility;
  • Overseeing the creation and maintenance of the daily production schedule, ensuring that dailies, client meetings, rounds, production meetings, and other priorities are effectively planned and managed;
  • Together with Supervisors, manage the project budget and schedule, working together to assure its financial and creative success;
  • Working with the supervisory team to assess the original scope of work and all creative iterative changes from a time, schedule, and budget perspective;
  • Working in tandem with the VFX and CG Supervisors to foster the partnership between the creative and production arms of the production supervision staff;
  • Maintaining company, client and project wide communication channels on project progress and milestones;
  • Being responsible for end-of-show wrap-up (breakaparts) with key artists, scheduling and engineering;
  • Acting as the main point of contact for clients with respect to the budget, scheduling, and scope of work from inception to final delivery.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Industry experience:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a producing role in the Animation or VFX industry or line producing within  live action / on set film & TV  projects.
  • Experience working on-set and within a film set.
  • Knowledge of production organizational tools such as Shotgun or other tracking systems.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of digital, animation and visual effects pipelines and processes including asset development, layout, matte painting, animation, FX, lighting, and compositing;

Project management skills:

  • High-level planning and organizational skills;
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting and scheduling skills;
  • Demonstrates initiative, ownership and a proactive attitude.
  • High level client management skills.

Communication skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including clear and concise reporting;
  • Extensive experience in communication with both outward facing clients, vendors and suppliers;
  • Demonstrates diplomacy and an ability to effectively work and communicate with all personality types;
  • Experience in dealing with group dynamics and conflict resolution;
    Demonstrates excellent client relations skills.

Software skills:

  • Advanced computer skills, including database and spreadsheet, proficiency, EXCEL
  • Production management software experience, such as Shotgun.

Other skills:

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Ability to think laterally and take a pragmatic approach in order to represent the individual needs of both artists and production crew, within the parameters of a project-based production environment.
