Later in the year Versatile has plans to launch a LED stage in Vancouver for live action filming.

The function of a FX Supervisor at Versatile Media is to bring their experience and expertise, both technical and artistic, in order to deliver high end digital FX for our clients and internal projects.

 

Accountable and Responsible for…

• Developing and producing a wide variety of realistic FX and simulations, including but not limited to destruction, smoke, fire, water and the supernatural;
• Reviewing simulations based on client requirements and offer feedback in a timely and positive manner;
• Creating high quality, art-directable, shot and sequence specific FX, including rigid body, particle dynamics, pyro, fluid and cloth simulations;
• Collaborating closely with other departments to meet all technical requirements of each project;
• Working with Supervisory teams regarding scope of work and maintaining quality levels and shot continuity;
• Participate in pre-show project planning with Supervisors to define the methodology to be used during the show & allocation of tasks within the team;
• Use tools and software developed in-house, proprietary tools, or off-the-shelf software, render photo-realistic FX;
• Balancing creative requests with the resources available;
• Works within the established pipeline and offers constructive suggestions to improve the process;
• Attending reviews and/or dailies as required;
• Working efficiently to meet milestones and anticipate any issues;
• Collaborating with pre-viz and virtual production teams.
• Mentoring and training team members in both technical and creative capacities;
• Communicating with Admin and HR team regarding team and potential artist challenges
• Attending Recruiting related meetings, events and interviews as required.

 

Qualifications and Requirements…

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in an FX specific role within features films and TV live action.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a Lead or Supervisory role within an FX team.
• Degree or relevant experience in VFX, Gaming, Computer Graphics.
• Proficient in Houdini.
• Working knowledge of Python.
• Experience with Maya a plus.
• Experience with Nuke is a plus.
• Experience with Unreal Engine is a plus.
• Able to work independently when required.
• Able to lead a creative and technical process.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Must be able to mentor team members and share knowledge.
• Strong solution based trouble-shooting skills.
• Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written.
• Ability to communicate in Mandarin a plus but not required.
• Up-to-date reel and resume showcasing required skills.
