The Embassy is hiring for a Roto/Prep Lead to join their team!

About You 

You are an experienced Roto Prep Artist who has experience leading a team. You bring exceptional interpersonal skills, offering mentorship and guidance to Artists while liaising with clients and the production team. You are a great communicator who knows how to set realistic expectations with external vendors. Lastly, you have experience with scheduling and know when to flag issues that may hinder your team’s progress to achieving the final goal.

Your Role 

As the Roto/Prep Lead, you will lead a team of artists in making sure shots are prepared adequately to enter the pipeline. You will communicate the requirements from daily briefings to Artists to ensure the team understands the requirements for the shots.

Liaise with the Comp/3D Supervisors to understand the requirements for a project
Provide Roto brief drawings and descriptions to send to outsource vendors, with the
Handles roto prep tasks when needed
Ability to talk through any briefs with outsource vendors as required.
Lead live meetings with outsource vendors to discuss schedules, briefings and kickbacks
Act as the key contact for production and supervisors, ensuring clear communication,
Handle creative challenges, solutions and changes in production & scheduling
Assist in the bidding process for roto and prep tasks
Accountable for briefing and QC’ing incoming external work and internal work
Make adjustments and refine roto and prep of varying degrees of difficulty.
Publish QC approved roto and prep into the system

Your Qualifications  

4+ years as a Roto/Prep Artist in the VFX industry, supplemented with several years’ experience leading a team
Experienced in generating detailed Roto to create mattes for compositing tasks
Possesses a wide range of Paint skills using hand paint and procedural techniques such as projections
Strongly versed in Nuke, Hiero and Silhouette
Be comfortable with degrain and regrain procedures
Excellent grasp of the whole filmmaking process from pre- through post-production
Possess great interpersonal skills; team-oriented, friendly and a people’s person
Be deadline driven and pro-active in finding solutions
Already hold legal authorization to work in Canada

Bonus Points

Knowledge of ShotGrid or similar show databases is an asset
