We are actively looking for a Systems Administrator to support our Visual Effects School in Vancouver & Montreal.

Lost Boys Studios has been producing Visual Effects for over 22 years.   For the past twelve years we have been focused on becoming the worlds top boutique school for the Visual Effects industry. We offer advanced craft based training for Effects, Lighting, and Compositing roles.  Recently we have expanded our operations to Montreal.

Currently staff jointly contribute to our systems administration but we are now reaching the size that could benefit with more specialized help.  Particular areas where we could use the most assistance is in the stabilisation of our network and servers. We are interested in developing a relationship with a freelancer to consult and assist with projects but are also open to creating a full time position for the right candidate.

Primary Responsibilities:
·Analyze, design, implement, and maintain technical infrastructure for efficient Visual Effects Production
·Provide desktop support for artists and production staff using Linux (currently Ubuntu)

·Ensure that our network is secure and our data safe
·Design, setup, & maintain graphics workstations
·Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware/software/network issues

·Ability to prioritize workload and respond quickly to critical issues

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
· A solid knowledge of Linux systems administration

· Python and scripting knowledge is beneficial

· Able to patiently explain technical systems to staff

· Ability to document procedure and systems

· Familiar with remote administration procedures to assist our Montreal location

· Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently
· Knowledge of servers, networking, storage and render systems for troubleshooting purposes
· Ambition to improve skill set and knowledge base
· Enthusiastic with a commitment to learn

· Workstations are all custom builds  (Approx. 50-60 systems)

· Ubuntu 16.04 (currently migrating to 18.04)

· Fog Server – for imaging and deployment (It also handles DHCP)

· Servers for our Data are from Synology – (DS1511+, RS3614xs, and DS1517+)

· We currently run a Directory Server app on our Synology servers for centralised user authentication  (LDAP clients on our workstations)

· Primary software applications – NukeX, Houdini, and Katana

· Renderfarm management using Side Effects Software HQueue
