Smoking Gun Interactive is looking for an experienced VFX Artist to join our team! The ideal candidate has excellent technical and artistic skills, and a passion for Mobile and PC games. The VFX Artist is responsible for researching, creating, and implementing exceptional quality effects for strategy based PC and Mobile Games. As a passionate and self-starting professional, you take pride in raising the bar on quality and pushing your technical skills but in accordance with visual and technical targets of the project. You enjoy working with multiple disciplines and collaborating with team mates to make the best possible game.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Lead Artist and Art Director to develop the look for FX treatment
  • Work closely with other departments to facilitate FX support for gameplay
  • Create high quality VFX art and animation on par with top Mobile and PC games
  • Create and implement final quality game-ready particle systems within tech specifications and memory constraints
  • Assist in defining technical support and features necessary to accomplish the FX tasks
  • Take ownership of tasks and deliver against budget, time and quality
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of in-house tools and art pipeline
  • Proactively problem-solve and troubleshoot as needed to accomplish tasks or to assist others
  • Keep up to date on game design and technical requirements relevant to tasks
  • Collaborate with artists and/or other disciplines on the team to accomplish assigned tasks

Position Qualifications:

  • 3 years of game development experience as a VFX artist specializing in real-time VFX
  • At least three games titles shipped as a VFX artist
  • Experience in developing for smartphones, tablets and PC is an asset
  • Experience creating high quality VFX art and animation for characters and environments
  • Expert proficiency using 2D art creation/manipulation packages, including but not limited to Photoshop
  • Expert proficiency using 3D modeling packages, including but not limited to 3D Studio Max
  • Good aptitude for problem solving and effective collaboration with Lead Artist and other departments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong personal motivation for excellence and high level of professionalism
  • Proven ability to work independently with limited supervision, and to multi-task under pressure
  • A Mobile games enthusiast with a passion for the games industry

Assets:

  • 2-3 years of post-graduate traditional art training, Degree or BA in Fine or Graphic arts or equivalent professional experience
  • Creation and implementation of shaders and rendering techniques
  • Knowledge of lighting principles and ability to set up lighting rigs
  • Knowledge of scripting (i.e. XML, Max Script, HLSL)
