UNREAL ENGINE – SENIOR TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking for an Unreal Engine – Senior Technical Director who has extensive knowledge and experience to join our newly established Department – Virtual Production.  This is a full time in-house position that is anticipated to start in May 2021.  We are looking for a wizard who is looking to break from their traditional role and play a bigger part within our very dynamic company. Ultimately, you would be responsible for helping us grow and develop this newer facet of our business.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities are, but not limited to:

• Provide supervision and technical support to the Virtual Production team.
• Oversee the data acquisition of the Virtual Production Department.
• Lead the Unreal Engine pipeline development for projects (episodic, movie, etc.).
• Work closely and collaboratively with the team to drive and continuously develop technical Unreal Engine skills.
• Conduct research of new tools and technology to enhance capabilities of the Department and team.
• Ensure growth and direction of the Department aligns with the company’s strategic plans.
• Develop, improve and manage the Department’s workflow, SOP and all relevant documentation.
• Ensure the quality of the finished product while keeping an eye on the budget.
• Be forward looking and keep an eye on the latest industry developments.
• Be an evangelist for Scarab Digital as you work with producers to shape their vision.

 

CORE COMPETENCIES

Suitable candidates will possess the following skills and experience:

Technical Skills:

• 10+ years of Maya and/or Houdini with Unreal Engine experience from either gaming, animation or visual effects as a toolset.
• Deep working knowledge of cinematography.
• Deep and thorough understanding of real-time rendering workflows.
• Proficient with Unreal Engine Sequencer.
• Extensive experience with lighting, modeling, and texturing in Unreal Engine.
• Extensive experience creating realistic environments using Unreal Engine.
• Strong proficiency in sense of composition, light, and colour.
• Solid knowledge and experience working with camera tracking, virtual production and motion capture.
• Solid experience working with Unreal Engine Blueprints.
• Working knowledge of Python, C++.
• Experience with production/project tracking applications, such as Wrik or Shotgun.

• Knowledge of real-world cameras and the relation to virtual cameras.

• Exceptional keenness to stay on top of new/evolving techniques and methods.
• Possess high motivation, great enthusiasm, and passion towards virtual production.
• Strong ability to understand and digest new/revised ideas and methods.
• Understanding of Film and Television and Game Production.
