Overview

Reporting to the CG or VFX Supervisor, the CG Generalist will model, texture, do basic animation work, create particle and dynamic FX, light and render as required in the assigned timeframe as outlined by the Supervisor.  The position requires a high degree of technical skill and artistic judgement. The CG Generalist should have the ability to serves as a key front-line representative of the company and able to be able to deal directly with clients in challenging situations. Accordingly, a professional demeanour and diplomacy are important.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create models (characters, sets and props) as assigned
  • Texture models (characters, sets and props) as assigned
  • Light and render assets and shots as assigned
  • Animate as required, though a CG Generalist is not considered a specialist in animation
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Ensure all working files are efficiently organized
  • Follow Supervisor directions, ensuring assets created are accurate and effective
  • Fully comprehend the requirements on the designs thereby creating assets true to their designs
  • Create and modify assets by following the creative direction of the production
  • Interact with production team in a positive manner
  • Report technical problems and potential problems to Supervisors in a timely fashion
  • Must work within the Method pipeline and publish tools, renders and scripts as prescribed
  • Must manage his/her disc space to fit within quota
  • Must create systems that minimize resource use, (render times, disc space, etc)

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in film VFX experience
  • Knowledge of Mudbox or 3D Coat, zbrush knowledge also useful
  • Good knowledge of displacement map and normal map generation
  • Knowledge of one or more high-end 3D software packages such as Maya or Houdini
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and/or Gimp
  • Good knowledge of polygonal geometry modeling
  • Good knowledge of material creations and texturing
  • Good knowledge of basic expression setup
  • Good knowledge of lighting and rendering
  • Good general animation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Excellent team player
  • Excellent file management skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Linux experience preferred
