Overview

As an Environment Artist at Method Games, you will be responsible for hands-on creation of efficient and photorealistic CG environments in Unreal to be used across shots and sequences. The position requires a high degree of technical skill and artistic judgment. You’ll be talented at balancing artistic needs with the production requirements and technical limitations of the software and hardware employed.  This is a cross-discipline role, and requires exceptional abilities in modeling, matte/texture painting, lighting, rendering, shader writing and compositing, as well as a strong understanding of all facets of a CG production including colour. This position requires constant attention to creating and enhancing efficiencies in the Method environment pipeline, and as such requires a person with a strong commitment to teamwork and technical excellence.

In this role, you will:

·       Understand all aspects of CG environment workflow;

·       Create efficient CG environment scenes and workflows;

·       Ensure that assigned shots fit in the continuity of a sequence and fulfill the vision of the VFX Supervisor;

·       Ensure the quality of final shots;

·       Troubleshoot technical production issues;

·       Oversee and help optimize shots for rendering;

·       Communicate creative and technical issues effectively;

·       Work within the Method pipeline and publish tools and scripts as prescribed;

·       Manage disc space to fit within quota;

·       Have an ability to be adaptable when changes in priorities and schedules arise;

·       Perform other miscellaneous duties as required from time-to-time by the Head of CG.

 

To be successful in this role, you must have:

·       Minimum two years’ experience as a CG artist, preferably as a CG environment artist or matte painter, with a good understanding of CG model sculpting, matte painting, texturing, 3D projections, lighting, and compositing;

·       Excellent artistic skills, with a particular emphasis on real-world lighting/photography an asset;

·       An understanding of colour theory and LUTs;

·       Good knowledge of Maya, Katana and/or possibly Houdini;

·       Familiarity with Lidar processing and environment creation software such as Paint Effects, Vue, Speed Tree is an asset;

·       Knowledge of one or more of the following renderers, depending on show requirements: vray, mantra, renderman;

·       Demonstrable ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas;

·       Able to take directions and adaptable to change;

·       Skill at improvising and problem-solving.

 

It would also be helpful if you had:

·       Good knowledge of Nuke and Photoshop;
