Overview

Lux Visual Effects is currently looking for an Intermediate Rigger to join our team for a short-term three week contract. This could lead to a more permanent position.

The candidate will work closely with our Head of Studio and be responsible for building efficient rigs and working within the team to support them.

Areas of Responsibility:
• Design, create, test and maintain efficient rigs/setups
• Work with the modelers to create a model that meets technical needs
• Collaborate with animators to design motion controls
• Develop and maintain character motion and deformation systems
• Develop secondary dynamics systems
• Develop new techniques and processes to solve character production challenges
• Capable of writing pipeline tools to streamline the setup process
• Work with production management to prioritize tasks
• Understand schedules for Pipe development – and to work within these overall parameters
• To work with the existing VFX and CG Supervisor teams, identify the rigging needs and implementing the rigs and rigging assets and supporting them during production

Position Requirements:
• In depth rigging knowledge of complex character/vehicle and props in Maya
• Experience as a rigger in a VFX production environment
• Knowledge of Maya, Mel and Python
• Ability to create script in Mel or Python
• Strong understanding of human anatomy and artistic skills
• Experience in dynamics, hair and cloth
• Experience in modelling, animation, texturing, lighting and rendering
• Experience writing GUI’s using the Qt framework (C++, PyQt or PySide)
• Experience with setting up production pipelines while being able to follow guidelines
• Ability to work independently and be a self-starter
• Knowledge of character Rigging and Animation pipeline development
• Excellent communication skills and familiarity with working in a small boutique environment
• Ability to take direction well, deliver work on time and work under pressure with a positive attitude
• Experience with UNIX / Linux

Education / Experience:
• Diploma in fine arts or computer animation or equivalent experience is required
• Honours Degree in Computing Animation, Computing Science, or related disciplines
• 3+ years of industry experience working in a VFX production environment
