POSITION PURPOSE
The Mid Lighter is responsible for delivering high quality shots in a quick and efficient manner. They will apply notes provided by the Lighting Supervisors/Leads. They will manage their time effectively to ensure tasks are completed within the assigned timeframe and to the specifications requested by Image Engine clients. The will take on shots in varying levels of complexity. They will identify and troubleshoot problems as needed and will ask for assistance when necessary to ensure effective use of time and resources.

They will begin quality checking their own work and assisting Senior artists to develop new concepts and approaches to improve work quality. They will participate in all team meetings when necessary.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply client notes to all lighting shots with minimal guidance
Communicate successes and challenges faced by the team to the Lighting Supervisor
Take direction from the Lighting Supervisor to help realize the vision of the shots through the lighting team
Work with Composting team members to achieve high quality complex composites
Ensure continuity is upheld across shots and sequences
Light multiple types of shot ensuring consistency in lighting, colour balance and mood between the various elements of the shot or scene
Manage time and resources to meet weekly targets
Promote interdepartmental collaboration

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
3+ years’ experience in Lighting digital VFX for film or commercials
Good understanding of photography and film, and how the interactions of light, lenses and film emulsions go to make up the image
Thorough understanding of a linear color-space workflow
Excellent attention to detail when finalizing, approving or quality controlling shots
Ability to balance quick turnaround while achieving a high degree of aesthetic quality

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical skills
Thorough understanding of PRMan or a RenderMan compliant renderer like 3Delight
Some scripting ability in MEL and python is an asset
Have a full understanding of the shader structure (not at scripting level), arbitrary outputs, and PTC systems
Ability to demonstrate photo-real shots/sequences created with your own light rigs and setups
Strong aptitude for technical workflow challenges such as directory structure, file formats, naming conventions, scripts, automation tools, automated dailies, etc.
Strong knowledge of lighting workflow and the lighting application interface
Traditional skills as a strong artistic eye for cinematography, composition, photography and high-resolution detail, as well as a good understanding of the principles of digital film compositing such as multi-pass rendering for composite-based control
