Overview

IGG.com Canada is looking for a talented Cinematic Lighting Artist to play a key role in the studio.

The primary role of this position is to take ownership of the lighting of environments and characters, ensuring that it meets the art direction requirements of the video production whilst adhering to any technical restrictions.

KEY SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop character and environment lighting schemes to create visually compelling cinematics.
  • Work with modelers, animators, texture and FX artists to optimize the visual look of the rendering.
  • Tweaking of shading materials and textures to improve the perception of the lighting.
  • Involved in look-development around key surfaces and shaders to ensure lighting delivers against visual reference.
  • Prototyping the use of lighting technology to reach the visual targets defined by the art direction.
  • Help create and/or modify lighting templates to be used by the entire crew.
  • Contributing to the development and placement of special effects related to lighting and atmosphere, such as light flares, fog, god rays and camera optics.
  • Collaborate and communicate constructively with Concept Artist, Technical Artists and Compositors.
  • Troubleshoot technical production issues, especially those related to lighting.
  • Other duties assigned by the team

TECHNICAL SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong understanding of color theory and practical lighting concepts
  • Deep understanding of CG lighting technology, both real-time and offline rendering.
  • Excellent artistic skills, with a particular emphasis on real-world lighting/photography.
  • Strong knowledge of offline render workflow, experienced in Vray, Arnold, Renderman or Redshift.
  • Knowledge of Nuke and Photoshop is an asset.
  • Experience with real-time rendering (Unreal Engine) is a bonus.
  • Experience using Substance Designer and Substance Painter shading workflow is an asset.
  • Great communication skills and an ability to work autonomously with minimal guidance.

Position type: permanent or independent contract
