Description:
Join a well-established VFX company as a System Administrator in a full-time permanent position. The ideal candidate will be motivated, resolution driven, and have great communication skills. The position is responsible for the maintenance of Hydraulx’s hardware and software systems. This role involves maintaining existing systems and implementing new systems to support onsite/remote studios. As Systems Administrator, expect to work with all studio levels/departments in a fast-paced environment. Resolving technical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain and manage the network infrastructure; Switches & Firewalls
Troubleshooting and resolving issues with production and administration applications (including: Maya, Nuke, Flare, and Houdini)
Maintain render farm machines onsite & offsite
Preparation and maintenance of infrastructure documentation on all systems, procedures and solutions to issues
Perform research and development for technical strategy and future systems; define and advocate software solutions
Collaborate with the programming team to resolve cross-department technical problems and diagnose root causes of incidents.
Provide input into potential improvements in efficiency, reliability and performance of VFX pipeline
Proactively communicate challenges faced by the team to the owner & supervisors, giving realistic timelines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
5+ years Linux/windows/ Mac experience
Experience managing large multi-platform environments – ideally mixed Windows/Linux/Mac OS environments
Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python, bash, Powershell)
In depth knowledge of Core Linux/Unix system administration. Linux Certification preferred (RHCE or equivalent)
Knowledge of network services (Active Directory, DNS, postfix, DHCP, etc)
In-depth knowledge and proficiency in Cisco networking systems (DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing protocols, firewalls, diagnostics)
Strong Storage administration Stornext, XSAN, NFS, and SMB (cleanup, rsyncs etc)
License server administration (flexlm and rlm)
Experience working with fibre connects, VM ware, and Nexus.
Experience in using development tools such as git, JIRA, Confluence (prefered)
Experience with Renderfarm and farm management (ie. Redshift, MentalRay)
Knowledge of VoIP and PcoIP Infrastructures preferred
Experience with relational database applications (mySQL)
