FuseFX has an opening in Vancouver! We have opportunities at our studio for an experienced and talented full-time VFX Editor with a background in television and/or feature film VFX to join our creative team.

FuseFX is an award-winning Visual Effects Studio providing visual effects services for episodic television, feature films, commercials, virtual productions, and VR. Founded in 2006, the company employs 800+ personnel across eight studio locations and  three brands. Our flagship studio is in Los Angeles, CA, with locations in New York City, Vancouver, BC., and Atlanta. Our Montreal, Toronto, and Bogota studios are serviced by FOLKS VFX, who joined FuseFX in 2020. The Adelaide, Australia studio is serviced by Rising Sun Pictures, who joined FuseFX in 2021.

Job Summary:

The VFX Editor is a self-motivated individual who can work independently, can multi-task efficiently, and has excellent technical and organizational skills. In addition, the position requires an understanding of digital formats and post production workflows to troubleshoot and creatively problem solve editorial challenges.

An ideal candidate will have an approachable and friendly demeanor, as the position involves frequent communication with the company’s producers, supervisors and digital artists. The ability to handle and explain technical issues with non-technical staff or clients, as well as the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously while keeping calm and maintaining an acute attention to detail is extremely important.

Previous experience in an editorial environment, like a D.I. Post house, and preferably in VFX.

The candidate should also have a passion to learn new software, methods, and workflows.

Essential Functions:

  • Conform, prep and processing of plates and references for VFX artists.
  • Thoroughly document turnover notes for artists and producers.
  • Identifying errors in turnovers and resolving technical challenges.
  • Basic dailies color grading, eye matching, and reading Waveform, Vectorscope, and RGB Parade.
  • Hosting reviews for producers, supervisors, and clients while performing technical QC of shots.
  • About 50% of time devoted to conforming, 40% of time in reviews, and 10% troubleshooting.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, and professional attitude while under time pressures.
  • Assimilate Scratch, Avid, Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, The Foundry Nuke & Hiero.
  • Comfortable in a typical editorial working environment, including remote work from home.
  • Ability to diagnose, treat, and provide solutions when discrepancies arise.
  • Knowing your audience, and how to communicate complicated scenarios, accordingly.
  • Travel not required, but we have international offices, so a valid passport is a plus.

Job Specifications:

  • Knowledge of at least one editing software package and understanding of post-production.
  • Ability to read and understand EDLs, XMLs, AAFs, and LUTs. Comfortable with Windows 10.
  • Technically proficient, with an understanding of online and offline editorial.
  • Experience with different digital camera formats, like RED, Arri, BMD, Sony, Panasonic, DJI.
  • Knowledge of multiple file formats, like EXR, MXF, DPX, QT, JPG, BRAW, etc.
  • Ability to work swiftly and efficiently, while occasionally multi-tasking on busier days.
  • H.S. Graduate, Associate degree, Bachelor’s degree, or Post Production Trade school

FuseFX is an award-winning visual effects studio that provides visual effects services for film, television, commercials, games, and special venues.

FuseFX was founded by David Altenau in 2006 and initially provided visual effects for a few network episodic productions. In 2008, Tim Jacobsen and Jason Fotter joined the company as partners and contributed to significant expansion, opening new offices in Burbank, and adding infrastructure and personnel to service multiple major episodic television programs as well as feature films and commercials. In 2014, FuseFX opened a new office in New York, bringing on board Greg Anderson to head those operations.

FuseFX BC was also established in 2014 to serve Vancouver’s burgeoning film and television production community. Led by Jon Cowley, the team combines a boutique mindset with the industry’s most efficient pipeline and an ability to work seamlessly and nimbly as an extension of the company’s Los Angeles and New York studios. The results are visuals of outstanding quality and imagination, delivered on time and on budget.

Today, FuseFX’s four locations have over 30 television shows in production simultaneously, while also servicing various commercial and feature film projects. FuseFX employs 800+ personnel across eight studio locations and three brands. The company has exclusively provided visual effects for all the major studios, and on such productions as American Horror Story, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Criminal Minds, Sons of Anarchy, Bones, Mad Men, TURN, The Blacklist, The Magicians, and many others.
