Overview

Crafty Apes is looking to bring on a senior Environment Artist to join our Vancouver team! You must have a proven track record and be able to produce at the highest quality. We are looking for a team player, effective communicator and someone who thrives on daily challenges.

You will be responsible for creating matte paintings and set extensions, either standalone, or to be integrated into live-action environments. You should be experienced in senior level concept and design work, and comfortable with mentoring junior artists.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years experience in DMP and/or Concept Art in a VFX production environment
• Bachelor’s degree in illustration, industrial design, or fine art preferred
• An advanced knowledge of the following:
  • Photoshop
  • Nuke, Maya or 3DS Max
  • 3D rendering
• Nice to have
  • Knowledge of RV and Shotgun
  • 2.5D / 3D projecting experience (3D generalist or Nuke compositing experience)
  • Strong knowledge of photography, especially in relation to lenses
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

SKILLS / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead other DMPs by giving direction and technical guidance, finding creative solutions and providing constructive feedback to ensure a high quality result, on time and on budget
• Performing tasks within production schedules and our pipeline best practices
• Maintain and develop knowledge/skills, staying up to date with new methods/techniques
• Provide creative and technical input on projects to improve quality and efficiency
• Collaborate with the production team and VFX supervisors to determine matte painting requirements and locations
• Obtain a level of realism based on the art direction of the project
• Ability to adapt to the show’s artistic style
• Maintain the schedule and quotas given by the Production Manager
• Organize workloads and prepare presentation elements for validations
• Communicate and search for solutions and information when necessary
• Maintain a good team dynamic
• Attend and engage in project and company-wide meetings
