Overview

Bardel is looking for a talented Background Paint Designer to join their 3D production. The Background Paint Designer works with Creative Supervisors to establish final look of Painted Backgrounds for the show and is responsible for developing a streamlined production process.  The Background Paint Designer also paints backgrounds, layouts and any other background-related art that the production may require, ensuring style and quality of show is met and maintained.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Meet with creative supervisor to ensure color needs of the show are fulfilled and maintained.
  • Complete all color work within assigned deadlines.
  • Resolve color problems with creative supervisors.
  • Communicate progress of work to appropriate production staff
  • Ensure all artwork is properly backed up, named and stored.
  • Ensure all shipping materials are prepared and ready on time.
  • Be available for questions until you department’s shipment is complete.
  • Review storyboard for background key color callouts.
  • Assist with special projects if necessary.
  • Willingness to be proactive and support the needs of the Art Department in its commitment to creating quality Production Design and Development art.

What you bring with you:

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in style of show
  • Strong knowledge of color theory and lighting
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop required
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn applicable color software and hardware
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Work well under pressure
  • Basic knowledge of maya is an asset
  • Some digital colour experience desired
  • BA/ BS preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience and/or training on a similar show; or equivalent combination of education and experience
