This is a remote contract position.

Job Description:

Our Digital Matte Painter (DMP) is responsible for creating photo-real matte paintings and set extensions, either standalone or integrated into live-action environments.

Primary Responsibility:

Painting environments and elements for integration into VFX shots
Working closely with other DMPs, CG Artists and Compositors to deliver the highest quality images
Review client and company briefs to determine the quality, placement and number of matte painting elements required to compliment a specific shot methodology.
Examining the plates, clips and stills of the background and/or principal action, as available.
Compiling strong image elements from multiple sources for use in DMPs.
Combines painting skills in animation software with a knowledge of photography, practical and digital modeling, and design to create 2D and 3D matte paintings or elements.

Qualifications:

At least 3-4 years experience in DMP in a VFX production environment
Thorough knowledge of Photoshop and other supporting packages
Experience using Nuke & Maya
Knowledge of ZBrush and/or Mari a plus
Knowledge of cameras, lenses, distortion, colour, and perspective
Knowledge of modeling, texturing, compositing (preferred)
Advanced knowledge of DMP techniques and/or technical experience in photography/lighting with an emphasis on colour and composition
Responsive to guidance and review notes from creative and technical leadership – able to apply feedback to achieve the required look
Team player and able to work independently with minimal supervision
