Overview

Did you love the LEGO® water in ‘The LEGO® Movie’?!  Want to do more brick based FX?  Then the FX Supervisor is the role for you!

You’ll be responsible for the supervision of all processes, procedures, outputs and deliverables for the FX department and ensuring the outputs and interactions of craft groups are aligned with production.

As the Supervisor you will be involved in recruiting and mentoring the FX artists and TDs.  You will interact regularly with Supervisors from the various departments and R&D.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the Art Director, Production designer, and Lighting Department Supervisor to assess technical implications of creative briefs
  • Clearly understanding the creative requirements of a sequence and develop or lead the development of technical solutions that will enable these requirements to be met.
  • Technically assist the development of prototypes/examples that clearly demonstrate the creative requirements of the production then assist in the development and dissemination of workflows based on these examples.
  • Work with the FX leads and technical TD’s to develop a common approach to FX requirements including both tools and procedures.
  • Identify areas of inefficiency within the groups’ workflow and work with the supervisors, TD’s and RnD to rectify.
  • Identify and contribute to, group and department, pipeline updates
  • Review assets leaving the group and give detailed, specific, feedback to Artists/TD’s where assets are not up to creatively ready for distribution.
  • Mentor and advise FX artists in technical aspects of their role.
  • Work with the dept coordinator to help Bid work, plan and prioritize tasks

To be successful in this role, the following is required of all candidates:

  • At least 5 or more years CG production Experience in FX; Experience on animated features a bonus
  • At least 3 or more years in a supervisory role
  • Ability to lead a team/ department and work with a wide range of personality types
  • Must possess strong communication skills and be able to efficiently organise and prioritise work across multiple areas
  • Expert level of understanding of Houdini FX tools
  • Scripting and/or programming experience to Expert level
  • Proven ability in high end FX work
  • Excellence in problem solving and balancing quick turnaround with long term quality
  • Crowd + Character-fx  experience a plus
  • Lighting/Surfacing/Shading experience a plus
